Beta the new Release? december 19, 2008 19:31

Okey, one of my sites who I regulary visits just went beta on their new site. Looks okey (I think il like it bether when the speed returns) What strikes me most is that they call it Beta... They had a beta site linked from their main page fo a couple of months.. thats fine that is an open beta.. it's public... But to change to it as main page and still call it beta is in my eyes wierd... Thou this strikes me, several of my regular site is marked as beta... Has beta been promoted to the new Release? As a developer I can understand why you call something beta.. When your in beta ther can be bug thats okey it's a beta... If your in release mode there CAN'T BE ANY BUGS!!! We all know that this is bollocks. All programs have bugs (well allmotst). Relase is just the new "Stabel" and Stabel has become something new "Old". Perhaps we should change the whole concept and just go by a primary version skipp the BETA,STABEL and just put revision out there.. this is version 2 revision 1. Help people understand that an application evolvs..

Worknote december 14, 2008 20:52

So we are finally shipping the Alaris to PCM Service to some of my Customer's customers. 1.0 Finally \o/.

What is it then? It's a Windows service that connects to a Medical Drugpump from a company named Alaris (duh!) and transforms the data to the PCM RTData standard (Picis). This means that the the Caresuite software get's the information from the pumps and can display it in its tracking records. Helping saving lives :) karma ftw.

Earlier this week I blogged about a proof of concept that you can detect if a user is logged in to twitter and display their data with a few lines of JavaScript. This could be used to show for example "tweet this" buttons in a blog application. The trick is easy: use the user_timeline to [...]
My teammate Stephen Walther launched the ASP.NET MVC Design Gallery a few weeks back. This stemmed from an idea ScottGu had to let the community change the default templates that ship with ASP.NET MVC . I was supposed to work on this but headed to Africa for the holidays so Stephen helped me out and took over the project and did a better job than I would have! You can vote on the designs that you like and that you don't like. You also can contribute new designs of your own. After you download a design from the gallery, you can use the design by following these steps: 1) Copy the files from DesignTemplateCS or DesignTemplateVB folder into your project (use DesignTemplateCS for C# projects and DesignTemplateVB for VB.NET projects) 2) Do a...(read more)

In this video Chris Pels shows how to use the FtpWebRequest class to create an FTP connection and transfer a file. First, create a simple .aspx form to select a file to transfer to the FTP server. Next, see the essential methods and properties of the FtpWebRequest class that need to be configured in order to establish an FTP connection. Then, see how to get the local file contents so the file can be transferred using a StreamReader and a StreamWriter to write it to the FtpWebRequest. Finally, a FtpWebResponse is obtained to determine the outcome of the transfer. This approach can be used to programmatically transfer files for a web application.
